Winter Sleepout 2009 (Woohoo!)

Hi all and welcome again to another year of merry fundraising for Mission Australia!

In August, we will be hosting a Winter Sleepout (aka WSO) sesh, whereby we 'voluntarily' put our hands up to sleep in the cold...on cardboard...in a car garage...outside of our temple. (ha ha very funny, I know you're laughing). BUT It's for a good cause! That's why yadders are going to such lengths.

You see Mission Australia helps raise money for the homeless an we are basically re-enacting the experience, so we feel what they feel.Okay OKay, it wont be as bad as you think. We're gonna have a BBQ, bring snacks and play games, so it'll be very cool!

This event to open to everyone, young or old, Buddhist or Non Buddhist! Please join us in raising money for Winter Sleepout. More details will be posted on the event. But of what we know so far...

Venue: 280 Guildford Road, Maylands

In addition to this event, we will be holding various activities leading up the WSO, such as our YAD Walkathon as well as our Sports events. To find out more information about the event, please keep this blog posted, email us at perth.yad@gmail.com or visit our Facebook page

Thanks all!

YAD presents...Slumdog Millionaire on 24th April 7pm FGS

Hello Dharma Friends! It is the time of the week again and this coming ANZAC Day long week end we the Young Adults Division are hosting a Movie Night!

Date: 24th of April 2009
Day: Friday Night
Time: 7pm onwards
What movie? : Slumdog Millionaire
Venue: Fo Guan Shan Temple 280 Guildford Road, Maylands
RSVP: Thursday 7pm
Contact: EJ at 043 0511 347 / eejuen.leong@gmail.com

The below is the short summary of the movie Slumdog Millionaire is the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India¹s "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika (Pinto), the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show¹s questions.
Each chapter of Jamal¹s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show¹s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out.
